4th Place Finish for Team Sweden in the U-18 World Champ.

 —

Team Sweden, with RZ Sport Group’s CEO Rikard Gronborg working as the team’s scouting coach, ended up in a disappointing 4th place last week after losing the last two games to the eventual winner Canada in the semi final and to team USA in the consolation game.  The expectations were a lot higher after cruising through the bracket play 4-0 beating teams like the USA and Finland. “Over the course of the week I think that we can be pretty happy with the way that the team competed.  However, the marginal between success and failure is very small at this level and we didn’t earn the bounces the last couple games” said Gronborg.  “We felt that we were as good as any team in the tournament but fell short at the end”.  The Swedish team playing well was shown in the semi final game when the Swedish team outshot the Canadian team almost 2 to 1 but the Canadian team showed more effectiveness in front both of the nets.  Despite the 4th place finish the team got a lot of attention from the NHL scouts with players like Mattias Tedenby, Jacob Markstrom, and Erik Karlsson being top players in the tournament.  All three players are highly ranked before this summer’s draft.  Rikard Gronborg is now in Montreal on his way to work with the Swedish Men’s team in the World Championship in Quebec City and Hamilton, Canada.

Looking for Billet Families

 —

The Chadder's Hockey program is looking to match our out-of-town student athletes with great people who are enthusiastic about the great sport of hockey, and would be interested in housing a player during the upcoming hockey season.

Many families and players alike have benefited greatly from the “Billeting” process, where a player from out of town becomes “one of the family”.

The type of player that is willing to billet in order to further their playing career is sacrificing the comfort zone of their own home, school, and friends to pursue their dream. This kind of player is typically the type of young man that you would want to have in your home.

If interested please contact Jim Kasper at 801-910-9606

Seth Adams verbally commits

 —

Chadder’s Hockey is pleased to announce another Junior commitment.  Seth Adams has verbally committed to the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.  Seth is coming off of a tremendous season in his first year with the Chadder’s Hockey team.

Seth Adams (Bozeman, MT) came to the Chadder’s Hockey team via the Yellowstone Quake of the NORPAC Junior league.  The 5’11’’, 171 pound defenseman is a very good skater that has really good hands.  He has been a very solid on defense and has helped us transition into offense by moving the puck with great passes.

Not only is Brooks Bandits getting a great player, they are also getting a great student with a 4.0 in high school.  Seth really excelled this year on the team and we expect him to do the same with Brooks.  He will have a great time playing against former teammates Beau Bertagnolli and Marc-Antoine Juneau of the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

Bertagnolli and Juneau verbally commit

 —

Chadder’s Hockey is pleased to announce that this year’s two leading scorers,  Beau Bertagnolli and Marc-Antoine Juneau, have verbally committed to play for the Bonneyville Pontiacs an Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) team.  Both players are coming off an outstanding season as members of the Chadder’s U-18 team which took honors as the Rocky Mountain District Runner-Up.

Beau Bertagnolli (Layton, Utah) finished the year with 27 goals and was the team’s assist leader at 35 for a 65 point total.

“Beau didn’t only produce points, I also feel that he was the heart and soul of our team and showed everyone just exactly why he was our captain,” said Chadder’s Director of Hockey and U-18 Head Coach, Rikard Gronborg. “It was as if we had a third coach when Beau was on the bench because he is such an intelligent player and an outstanding person”.

The 5’9’’, 175 pound forward capped off his Chadder’s career with an outstanding weekend of play during the Regional Tournament leading the team with 6 goals in 5 games.

Marc-Antoine Juneau was Chadder’s leading scorer posting a team-high of 42 goals plus he added 24 assists for a 66 point total.  During the year, the Fossambault sur le Lac, Quebec native showed an uncanny ability to find the back of the net when his needed him to do so.

“There is no secret behind Marc’s success. if you had watched any of our practices, he was always one of those working hardest,” said Gronborg.  “Marc and Beau were a great combination who really jelled during the year and on the ice they fed off of each other and played well together.

This year, the Bonneyville Pontiacs advanced to the second round in the AJHL play-offs rostering two other former Chadder’s team players; Chris Jung and Anthony Moser. The AJHL developed over 50 players this past season who were then recruited and later committed to college scholarships.

2008 Chadder´s Changes

Exciting New Changes for Chadder’s Hockey (3/28/08)

The Regulators Hockey AAA hockey program (Chadder’s) is excited to announce several changes for the upcoming 2008-09 hockey season, designed to continue our efforts at improving our hockey opportunities here in Utah.

The Chadder’s AAA program will add a Bantam U14 team next year which will play a 35-40 game schedule against both AAA and AA competition.  The new head coach will be Jim Kasper who brings a wealth of knowledge to these young players. Jim acted as head coach for the Renegades AA Midget Major Team in 2006-2007 and was the assistant coach to the Chadder’s AAA Midget Major Team this past season.

“To continue to grow hockey in Utah, we feel that these changes and additions to our organization will ensure that more players from the state of Utah will have an opportunity to play at the AAA level now and in the future” said Chadder’s Hockey Director, Rikard Gronborg. “After having worked with Jim last year, I know that our Bantam team will be in very good hands.  Jim is extremely committed to helping players with their hockey development.”

The Chadder’s AAA organization is also pleased to announce that Adam Kostichka will be taking over Head Coaching duties for Chadder’s U-16 Midget Minor AAA team.  Adam worked as the Assistant Coach for the U-16 AAA Team this past season and was appreciated by the players and parents alike for his passion and overall hockey knowledge.

“There is no doubt that Adam is the right coach to take our U-16 AAA team to the next level” says Gronborg.

Chadder’s U-16 AAA team struggled early on but just got better and better as the season progressed.  Toward the end of the season the team was beating established AAA teams like the California Cougars and the SoCal Titans.

Chadder’s would also like to announce that Mike Adamek, last years Bantam Renegades Head Coach will be the new assistant coach to the Midget Major AAA team. Mike has an impressive hockey background, playing Junior A, College Division 1, and professional hockey.

“Mike did a great job last season with our first year Renegades Bantam AA team, implementing a great work ethic and helping tremendously to improve the relative skill level of each player. He will be a great addition to our Midget Major AAA Team,” said Gronborg.

The Chadder’s U-18 team is just coming off a franchise best season, ending up as the Rocky Mountain District’s Runner-Up losing only to the Dallas Jr. Stars 4-3 in the Championship game.

National Tournament Bid

 —

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BID (3/28/08)

Regulators Hockey, Inc., submitted a formal bid today to USA Hockey to host the 2010 National Tier I (AAA) tournament in Salt Lake City.  The tournament runs from the 7th of April to the 11th of April 2010.  Host venues, depending on the number of teams and the levels awarded will be at the Utah Olympic Oval, County Ice Center (Murray), Salt Lake City Sports Complex (Steiner Arenas) and the Acord Ice Center.  We are bidding for the Peewee, Bantam, Midget U16 and Midget U18 divisions.  (2010 Nationals for Tier II (AA) divisions will be all under one roof with each state sending only one team at each age level to a single venue.  There will be no Regionals in 2010.)

The Regulators must make an in-person presentation to the full USA Hockey Youth Council in June in Colorado Springs detailing everything from parking, traffic congestion, amenities, distances from hotels to airport and venues to airport, conditions of locker rooms, etc.

The Utah Sports Commission, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Salt Lake Visitors & Convention Bureau are assisting in the presentation and will travel to Colorado Springs with several Regulators Board Members.  We will be notified later in the year whether or not we will host.

This effort has been ongoing for sometime and with the great presentation we made at the Regional Tournament held in Provo a couple of weeks ago & with great finish of our U18 AAA team this year, we feel we can not only be competitive but could easily win the bid.  The Provo tournament was a dry run in front of several USA Hockey Poobahs and although there was panic every day under the surface, our volunteers miss a beat.

This opportunity to showcase our state, our venues and most importantly our teams and volunteers is a once-in-a-lifetime event.  It’s an exciting time for Regulators Hockey, Chadder’s and the Rocky Mountain Renegades programs.  More information will be forthcoming as we progress in the bid effort.

Chicago Showcase

2008 CHICAGO SHOWCASE (3/28/08)

The prestigious Chicago Showcase Tournament will be held from the 15th of April to the 20th of April in Chicago, Illinois.  This is one of the oldest and longest running tournaments in the nation.  It is held each year to showcase to Junior and College Scouts the best players throughout the country.

For the last 20 years the Showcase teams have been overseen by Larry and Margo Nate, longtime hockey people from Salt Lake City,

Showcase requirements are that to be eligible a player must be either a Junior or Senior in High School or be a Midget ineligible to participate on a high school team.  Players are selected from Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.  Tryouts for Utah spots were held about a month ago in Salt Lake City.  Coaches from the other states did the same and sent their candidates.

This year there are 8 players from Montana, 1 from Idaho, 4 from Wyoming and 7 from Utah.  This is the most spots Utah has had in over 10 years.  Players selected by the coaching staff from Utah are Juniors Devin Holmes,  Ryan Kepo’o and Dalton Spice from Timpanogos High School, Cory Joosten, a Senior from Hunter High School, Mario Lamar, a Senior from Alta High School, Senior Cody Palmer from Fremont High School and Juniors Henry Vadnais and JJ Ziegler from East High School.

All players will have the opportunity to be scouted and will see some excellent competition.  This tournament is really one of the highlights of the year and participation is great for that hockey resume.  Congratulations to Devin, Ryan, Dalton, Cory, Mario, Cody, JJ and Henry.
